DID THOMAS CRAPPER INVENT THE WC?

Thomas Crapper didn’t actually invent the wc, despite the US using his name to coin a bathroom-related term or two.

He did, however, become known for WC’s after improving their design and creating the first ever ‘bathroom showroom’ to display them. The bathroom showroom included plumbed-in WC’s, so customers could see how the flush worked. This was incredibly shocking and innovative at the time (in the 1870’s).

Royal Warrants
Thomas Crapper’s fastidious nature meant he built a reputation for quality, so much so that Crapper & Co. supplied and installed their very finest wares for the Royal family.

With four Royal Warrants in total, it’s no surprise Thomas Crapper are still known today for superior quality: they’ve weathered the storm of British manufacturing, to keep on making exceptional, authentic Victorian/Edwardian bathroom pieces.

WHAT MAKES A BATHROOM GREAT?

We see hundreds, thousands even, of different bathrooms, and we think a traditional, period bathroom brings something special. Lonely planet even agree, in their article about the world’s best bathrooms.

The Thomas Crapper beer-pump cistern is rather charming. If you’ve ever used the facilities at the Wykeham Arms in Winchester, you will see one in action. We also love their high-hung cistern, displayed in our showroom.

WHAT THOMAS CRAPPER PRODUCTS ARE THERE?
We supply these Thomas Crapper products:

Beer pump low and high-hung WC’s
Basins
Showers
Accessories
